Working with Special Populations

Did you know that even those living with chronic illness, disabilities, or undergoing intense medical treatments can still benefit greatly from personalized wellness care?

Throughout my career, I’ve worked with a wide range of individuals—from highly active to significantly limited in mobility. Many people don’t realize that conditions such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s, cancer, diabetes, and even post-surgical recovery are not reasons to give up on feeling better. In fact, it’s often during these times that the body needs the most support—both physically and mentally.

As a retired certified personal trainer and now a full-time massage therapist, I understand how to meet people exactly where they are. Whether it’s limited range of motion, neuropathy, fatigue from treatment, or long-term immobility, there are always ways to nurture the body and improve quality of life.

In my two decades of experience, I’ve helped:

  • Restore nerve function in a paraplegic client so he could feed himself again

  • Improve balance and confidence in clients with multiple sclerosis

  • Support a client through chemotherapy by helping her maintain energy and circulation

  • Aid in recovery from broken bones, joint replacements, and ACL repairs

The common thread?
Gentle, intentional bodywork that respects the condition of the body while encouraging healing, function, and relief.

Massage therapy can be a powerful tool for special populations. It improves circulation, reduces pain, calms the nervous system, enhances sleep, and contributes to emotional wellbeing. For many, it becomes not just a treatment—but a key part of their overall wellness strategy.

At Selina’s Therapy Center in Pacific Grove, I offer individualized sports and therapeutic massage tailored to each person’s needs. With deep knowledge in anatomy, recovery, and chronic conditions, my goal is to provide comfort, care, and function—especially when your body needs it most.

If you or a loved one is navigating illness, disability, or recovery, massage can be a safe and supportive way forward.
